| Background: |
The Marana facility opened in 1994 and was the first privately-operated prison in Arizona. In entering into the contract, the Arizona Department of Corrections sought to provide a treatment program for offenders with substance abuse problems. In October 2000, the Department extended MTC's contract to operate the facility. The facility houses up to 506 male, minimum security offenders. |
| Rehabilitation Programs: |
Treatment at Marana is based on a counseling model that emphasizes personal responsibility for behavioral choices and consequences. Inmates attend group therapy and private counseling. They are also active in Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and Cocaine Anonymous. Program components include:

- Commercial Drivers License
- Computer Literacy
- Employability and Work Maturity Skills
- English as a Second Language (ESL)
- General Education Development (GED)
- Reasoning and Rehabilitation
- Shaken Baby and Parenting Skills (Dads 101)

American Correctional Association (ACA) accreditation was received by the facility in April 2005 with a total score of 99.5%. The facility has also been reaccredited by the Correctional Education Association (CEA) in September 2005 with a total score of 100%. |
