Transitioning Detainees

Helping detainees as they transition back to their communities

MTC partners with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to provide individuals in their care with a comfortable, helpful, and attentive environment. ICE detainees are housed at MTC facilities for very short periods of time, and during that time, MTC provides these men and women with opportunities to further their education, to participate in meaningful activities, and to prepare in all ways to return to their homes and families.

Arturo Rios, a detainee at MTC’s IAH Detention Center in Livingston, Texas talked about the experience he’s had at the facility,

I just want to say thank you and commend the personnel and guards here at this detention center. Even in a place like this, these people [staff] make a huge difference for the best. They have treated me with respect and dignity…they have gone over and beyond. They come to work with a smile on their face. They try their best to help. They have made me feel like one of them. Congratulations on a well-managed facility.”

Helping detainees since 2006

MTC Medical, a subsidiary of MTC, provides quality medical, dental, and mental healthcare to detainees at our facilities. A professional staff of doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals ensures detainees are healthy during their time at MTC facilities.

MTC provides nearly 3,000 detainees at three facilities with educational programs and other meaningful services during their short stay at an MTC facility.

The MTC Impact in 2016

  • 687,333 hours of services and activities provided to detainees
  • 14,000 service hours spent helping improve local communities

Valdemar Pasillas spent time at MTC’s Otero County Processing Center in Chaparral, New Mexico. During his stay, Valdemar received medical services, of which he said,

“The medical staff is very helpful. They are kind and make us feel comfortable. I’m very pleased with the medical services I have received at this facility.”
