MTC has provided technical assistance in multiple locations around the world. Work has included vocational assessments, small and medium enterprise development, training for marginalized populations including women and youth, executive training, national skill set development, technical vocational education and training system design and implementation, among many others.

China

Workforce Development * Economic Growth

In partnership with AECOM International, MTC provided analysis and consultation on a provincial development project in China. These efforts were part of a small cities and towns development demonstration project.  Working in three provinces, MTC consulted on the education and training aspects of the plan, including the proposed relocation of several schools to more environmentally and economically stable locations, as well as the proposed construction of a new workforce training center. Haiti

Workforce Development

MTC recently conducted an assessment of the current state of vocational and technical education (TVET) in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The MTC team met with government officials from Port-au-Prince and Cap-Haitien, managers of TVET schools, private companies within the constructions sector, USAID officials, and representatives of other local organizations. MTC conducted a forum focused on the workforce needs of Haitian construction firms. According to local construction managers and line workers, the forum gave them the opportunity to discuss and analyze the current labor demands and situations within the overall construction sector. Iraq
Technical Vocational Education & Training * Workforce Development * Institutional Capacity Building * Physical Infrastructure & Equipment

MTC contributed to the post-conflict stabilization in Iraq through a project to establish, improve, and upgrade the technical vocational education & training curricula as well as leadership and delivery mechanism of the Ministry of Labor & Social Affairs. MTC work targeted some of the most difficult to employ in Iraq including ex-soldiers. Updated curricula and certification for ten viable occupations were developed and utilized to train more than 12,000. MTC also leveraged its extensive facilities development and management experience to upgrade the physical infrastructure and equipment in several vocational centers. (2004 – 2005)

          

 


 

Jordan
Institutional Capacity Building * Executive Development

MTC in cooperation with International Development & Technical Assistance (IDTA) and Engicon presented innovative training to the staff of Jordan’s leading water company, Miyahuna. MTC trained Miyahuna employees in the areas of safety, human resources, and customer service identifying challenges specific to Miyahuna and to the water sector in Jordan suggesting useful strategies that could solve those challenges.  The training classes included a variety of teaching methods such as group cooperative activities, contests, games and puzzles that encouraged learning and that uniquely illustrated the concepts surrounding safety, human resources, and customer service. Mongolia
Workforce Development * Policy Analysis * Public-Private-Partnership

MTC contributed to the due diligence for the TVET component of a Millennium Challenge Corporation Compact project in Mongolia. In partnership with Creative Associates, MTC provided the evaluation and development of a plan for a new demand-driven vocational system geared toward job growth. MTC helped evaluate Mongolian vocational schools’ readiness to meet employer needs and reviewed the new law governing the country’s vocational training system, providing MTC’s insight drawn from several countries. The MTC team developed a framework for the project, designed a model for public-private partnerships to speed-up the local implementation and created a design for a regional labor market analysis. Palestine – West Bank
Institutional Capacity Building * Technical Vocational Education & Training * Private Sector/Employer Development

In Palestine, MTC worked as a sub to Save the Children on a large TVET project. Over one year of collaboration and intervention, MTC increased the capacity of local institutions to provide vocational and technical education and training to youth and young adults. The institutions participating were all members of the Palestine VET-NGO League of Vocational and Training Association. The results of the project included the industry certification of League instructors and the potential of the League to become the first construction-industry certification program in Palestine. In conclusion of the project, five comprehensive reports were researched and written that contained a Labor Market Analysis, a GAP Analysis, an Action Plan, and the review of opportunities for relationships with employers and industrial zones. South Sudan
Institutional Capacity Building * Policy Analysis * Workforce Development

MTC assisted Creative Associates with a UNICEF project requiring capacity building for the new government of South Sudan. MTC worked with the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology in South Sudan to provide vocational expertise in the writing of education policy briefs for the government. This work focused on the capacity building of the members of the new government Ministry. The team conducted focus groups and situational analysis for state and community stakeholder input. Policy briefs were then written for vision, organization, funding, and regulation of the new education programs. (2006-2007)

          

 


 

Tunisia
Leadership * Institutional Capacity Building

MTC conducted executive training for the African Development Bank (AfDB) staff in Tunis, Tunisia. The executives required presentation skill training, cross-cultural communication skills, and modes of communication when working with indigenous citizens in very diverse countries within Africa. The program was presented in French and English and included training theory, affinity diagramming, small group work, presentation practice with video documentation and review. A 250-page manual and CD featuring 18 training modules was developed for future use. (2006)
