Building America's Youth
As part of his War on Poverty, President Lyndon Baines Johnson introduced Job Corps to America in 1964. Two generations later, Job Corps is still going strong, with more than 120 centers throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. The U.S. Department of Labor-funded job-training program serves young men and women, ages 16 to 24.

Students attend Job Corps for up to two years, focusing on academic and vocational training as well as personal and professional skills. Job Corps places a high percentage of students in jobs, the military, or higher education. Job Corps enhances students' wage rates, overall earnings, fringe benefits and length of employment.

Building and maintaining solid community support has long been an MTC strength. Linkages with the community provide placement opportunities for students upon graduation. Through a wide variety of service projects, students learn valuable skills while enhancing their communities.

If you are interested in Job Corps, you can call their toll free number: 1-800-733-JOBS or visit their website at http://jobcorps.dol.gov.

All Job Corps contractors are required to conduct comprehensive reviews of the centers they operate. MTC views this as an opportunity to:

  • Better understand and respond to student issues
  • Evaluate contract compliance and service quality
  • Develop center staff members for new career opportunities
