MTC to operate Kyle Correctional Facility in Texas - TDCJ awards Utah Company its 13 th prison management contract, 5th in Texas (CENTERVILLE, Utah) – The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) has announced today, Management & Training Corporation (MTC) of Centerville, Utah will operate the 520-bed Kyle Correctional Facility. MTC will assume control of the site – located near Interstate 35, about 20 miles south of Austin – on September 1, 2005. “We are very proud of our strong relationship with TDCJ and look forward to serving the state at this facility,” said MTC Texas Region Vice President JC Conner. “The Kyle Correctional Facility is the third TDCJ facility we are operating. MTC manages two federal correctional facilities in Texas as well.” Management & Training Corporation will now operate 13 correctional facilities: five in Texas, 2 each in Arizona, New Mexico and Ohio, and one each in Australia and Canada. Additionally, MTC operates – or partners in the operation – of 24 federal Job Corps centers across the country. About one-third of Kyle Correctional Facility inmates (170 of 520) will receive intensive substance abuse treatment while incarcerated. Additionally, nearly all inmates will be eligible for the comprehensive educational programs offered at Management & Training Corporation correctional facilities. MTC will employ 106 FTEs at the facility, including 63 correctional officers. Some of those officers may be hired from the nearby MTC-operated Gary Job Corps Center in San Marcos. Through the cooperation and assistance of TDCJ, Management & Training Corporation has established a correctional officer training program at Gary – the only program of its type throughout Job Corps. The Kyle Correctional Facility contract will run five years, through August 2010. Medical care at the facility will be provided by the University of Texas Medical Branch. The MTC warden at Kyle will be Greg Shirley, who is currently Management & Training Corporation’s warden at the West Texas Intermediate Sanction Facility in Brownfield. A replacement for Shirley at that facility will be named soon. To learn more about the Texas Department of Criminal Justice please visit www.tdcj.state.tx.us.
