MTC Shines at training awards The nomination for the Minister’s Initiative was based on Borallon’s theoretical Integrated Offender Management (IOM) program, a conceptual model aimed at implementing ‘best practice’ strategies in offender management. MTC’s Large Employer nomination was based on MTC’s year long commitment to staff training and development, including an annual training plan and also a very comprehensive Calendar of Events. Troy Ittensohn, Director of MTC Australia and General Manager of Borallon Correctional Centre said, “For 2005 Borallon Correctional Centre staff undertook a staggering 17,910.25 hours of training. This included theoretical IOM as well as practical training such as control and restraint. I believe these training awards are a reflection of our success in staff training.” MTC Senior Corrections Vice President Odie Washington added, “Management & Training Corporation is internationally renowned for it’s commitment to staff training and development. MTC invests a large amount of resources into assuring staff are fully trained with the best available facilitators and course content. MTC even has a corporate university which researches and develops staff training programs to meet the training needs of custodial staff and managers. I am proud of what MTC has achieved in Australia and elsewhere. We are proud to be recognized as Queensland Training Awards winners.” The Queensland Training Awards were presented Friday June 16, 2006 at the Goondiwindi Waggamba Community Cultural Centre.
