Red noses everywhere at Borallon Centre fundraiser Management & Training Corporation (MTC) staff and guests at Australia’s Borallon Correctional Centre in Ipswich, Queensland celebrated that country’s “Red Nose Day” with a successful fundraising event. Red Nose Day is an annual Australian event, designed to raise awareness of and money to combat sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). The Borallon facility hosted a pancake breakfast fundraiser to assist in the effort. Officials say about 200 Australian infants die from SIDS each month. It is also estimated each of those deaths directly impacts more than 60 people, who may require counseling and support organizations. Borallon Correctional Centre Human Relations Manager Jenny Hanna said, “MTC has a strong philosophy to support the community and this is our way to support those who have lost a child. Hopefully the money raised will assist in SIDS research to prevent tragic losses in the future. It’s important for us as community members to help support those who have lost a baby in such a tragic way.” The activity is called “Red Nose Day” because supporters of the fundraising activities commonly wear a red, foam “clown’s” nose to draw attention to the event.
