Borallon Celebrates International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is celebrated throughout the world with many different forums and themes.  At the Borallon Correctional Centre it was no different.  Management & Training Corporation (MTC) – the managers and operators of Australia’s Borallon Correctional Centre – celebrated International Women’s Day by raising donation funds and enjoying camaraderie.

Borallon Human Relations Manager Jenny Hanna said, “Working in a male custodial prison is an important and valuable role for women.  Because the industry is male dominated, MTC works hard to support its female staff.  International Women’s Day is one activity that enables women in our workplace to feel appreciated and enjoy sisterhood.”

The day included a fundraiser for the Ipswich Children’s Hospital Ward School.  The Borallon female staff members donated more than $400 to the school for educational items and toys.

Hanna added, “I would also like to thank Custodial Officer Judy Lipp for donating some of her beautiful custom made jewellery to assist with the fundraising. Judy’s contribution is an indication of the support and enjoyment the annual celebration brings to our staff.”

Bonnie Reeve, one of Borallon’s Custodial Officers and an International Women’s Day coordinator added, “Each year MTC puts together a great event where staff can gather to communicate and have fun.  International Women’s Day has become a very important event here at Borallon.  Each year it just seems to get better.”
