Clearfield Job Corps projects aid local cancer patient Students and staff of the Clearfield Job Corps Center recently participated in several projects designed to benefit cancer patients at two northern Utah hospitals. For starters, 84 students, staff and community members donated blood to aid in the fight against cancer. Other projects benefited Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City and Ogden Regional Medical Center. For the Ogden hospital, students constructed a custom metal frame to hold an inspirational poem. It was manufactured by Clearfield Job Corps welding students and now hangs in the waiting room of the Val A. Browning Cancer Treatment Center at the hospital. Meanwhile, several Clearfield machining students produced medallions with the poem’s title inscribed on them, while the center’s business technology students created bookmarks with the poem imprinted on it for patients and visiting family members. Job Corps culinary arts students also baked cookies and iced them with pink ribbons and the word “Hope” for Breast Cancer Awareness month. Finally, at Primary Children’s Medical Center, 50 bird houses built by Job Corps carpentry students were donated to provide children undergoing cancer treatment craft activities. The patients are now painting the bird houses during their hospital stay and taking them home. (Posted 12/30/08) |
