Clearfield Job Corps students assist in park construction

In celebration of the Job Corps program's 45th anniversary this fall, Clearfield Job Corps Center students joined more than 2000 community volunteers to construct a new playground at a community center in nearby Logan, Utah.

Ten student leaders from the Clearfield center's tile and brick, carpentry, electrical, plumbing and facility maintenance programs spent an entire week at the site, about an hour north of the Job Corps Center, plying their trades and leading volunteer work groups.

The community center itself is actually an old school that began serving area students 100 years ago. Community center officials were excited to commemorate the anniversary by leaving a legacy for the next 100 years in the form of a playground and park.

First imagined by local school children, the "Adventure Playground" was constructed to be completely accessible to children with any disability. It was also built entirely by volunteers. The popular playground is expected to draw families from throughout northern Utah.

In addition to nearly 20,000 square feet of playground area, the community center has a park with benches and picnic tables for families.

This project is just one of many Clearfield Job Corps Center students have completed in 2009. In the first nine months of the year, Clearfield students have volunteered 4250 hours in service to neighboring communities.
