New ‘MTC Impact’ programs to award $10,000 top prizes

The curtain will soon fall on the current MTC Job Corps and Corrections Innovation programs.  Starting July 1 for Job Corps and October 1 for Corrections, MTC will launch new and improved programs: MTC Impact . . . innovations for performance, cost savings and employee morale

The program defines an “innovation” as “a significant solution that positively impacts performance, cost, or morale.”  The new MTC Job Corps Impact Program will run for an entire year, through June 30, 2009.  Each year thereafter the program will also run on the program year calendar – July 1 to June 30.  The new Corrections program will run October 1, 2008 through December 30, 2009.  After that, the Corrections portion of this program will run on a calendar year.

Through the new programs, each MTC Job Corps center and correctional facility will be expected to identify and develop at least one innovative solution that impacts performance, cost or employee morale.  The innovation should have customer and regional vice president input and should involve as many staff members as possible.

The innovation should be submitted for posting on the Innovations page on the MTC Intranet.  Progress and results must be reported and will be posted on the Intranet as well.  Then later in the program period, a panel of MTC officers will select the winning innovations.

The first place MTC Impact innovation will receive $10,000!  Second place will earn a $5,000 prize.  And five additional winning centers – third through seventh places – will earn $1,000 each.  These awards will be presented in both the Job Corps and Corrections divisions of MTC: A $10,000 top prize for each, a $5000 second prize for each, and 5 different $1000 prizes for each.
