MTC’s newest correctional facilities thriving

In January 2009, Management & Training Corporation (MTC) increased the number of correctional facilities it operates from 13 to 16. This was accomplished through three new contracts with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ).

TDCJ awarded MTC 6.75 year contracts to operate the Billy Moore Correctional Center in Overton, Texas, the Diboll Correctional Center in Diboll, Texas and the Sanders Estes Correctional Center in Venus, Texas. The awards signify the resurgence of MTC as a leader in Texas private corrections.

Since then, administrators at the three facilities have done much to strengthen their ties with their host communities. The Sanders Estes Unit entered into a new partnership with Venus City, Johnson County and TDCJ.

Last year the Sanders Estes Unit logged more than 4000 hours in community service projects throughout Venus. The facility participated in numerous community events through sponsorship, staff member volunteerism and fund raising. The facility assisted local law enforcement, school districts and Johnson County agencies.

In addition to serving their communities, the Texas facilities are also improving the lives of their offenders. The MTC Success for Life program continues to grow, instilling offenders and staff members alike with a positive philosophy and frame of mind. Staff members are excited about the possibility of expanding offender programs and enhancing existing programs.

Management teams at all three of MTC’s newest correctional facilities are proud of what was accomplished in 2009. They are also excited about where they are headed now, in 2010.

Also in 2010, the Billy Moore, Diboll and Sanders Estes sites will lose their distinction as MTC’s “newest” correctional facilities. Two thousand new beds will come on line at the Kingman site this spring and MTC will operate a new 432-bed facility opening near Boise, Idaho later in the year.
