Late last month, MTC presented a Wardens’ Retreat at the beautiful Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia. The week of September 20-25, 2008 was full of activities for both employees and spouses.
MTC Institute President Bob Jones opened the conference presentations on Monday by offering an overview of the state demographics, labor market projections, education levels and prison populations within each of the five states where MTC currently operates correctional facilities – Arizona, California, New Mexico, Ohio and Texas.
Also during week, each of MTC’s 13 wardens presented their facility review.
MTC Leadership Development Committee members Anita Dutson, John Vanyur, Stacy Henry, Stephen Easley and Darla Elliott updated the wardens on new training developments within the MTC Communication Department.
John Vanyur presented Management of Labor Costs and summarized the committee’s findings and recommendations for reducing overtime in light of Corrections’ goal to reduce overtime costs by 15%.
MTC Medical personnel introduced Dr. John Barnett who will have medical oversight for Corrections. A recent retiree, Dr. Barnett was persuaded to return to the workforce. His wealth of experience in medical corrections will be an excellent asset to the company.
Guest presentations at the Wardens’ Retreat included an excellent discussion from Dr. David Kozak, professor of public policy at Gannon University. His presentation was entitled "Road to the White House--Campaign and Elections 2008: An Executive Perspective."
Finally, the week wasn’t all work. Retreat attendees also managed to mix in golfing, skeet shooting, bowling, fly-fishing, hiking and many other networking activities. |
