Denison Job Corps Center graduate receives donated car
Denison Job Corps Center graduate Lara Buckroyd received a 1992 Buick Regal donated by a local Denison, Iowa motor company. Buckroyd came to the western Iowa center as a single mother, living in the center’s solo parent dorm with her 17-month-old son, Jayce.
While attending the center Buckroyd completed her high school diploma and the center’s Certified Nursing Assistant program. She is currently enrolled in the Insurance Coding College offered through Indian Hills Community College.
Buckroyd won the car by entering a drawing. The car had been assessed by Auto Technology students at Western Iowa Tech Community College. It was also painted by students in the Job Corps painting program. The drawing was open to all of Denison Job Corps Center’s graduating students.
Buckroyd said the Job Corps is more of a home to her than any place else. She appreciates the support, caring and opportunities she has enjoyed through the program. She said her high school diploma and college would have only been a dream without Job Corps.
Lara Buckroyd offered a tearful thank you to Adams Motor Company owner Bob Adams as sheaccepted the car from him during the October drawing.
