East Texas expansion to add 150 jobs
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) is now in the process of expanding the Management & Training Corporation (MTC)-operated East Texas Treatment Facility. That means – in the midst of very trying economic times – more members of the Henderson, Texas community will soon enjoy quality jobs at the prison.
Helped by rousing endorsements from the Henderson Economic Development Corporation and the area’s Chamber of Commerce, MTC was approved by TDCJ to expand the facility to 2280 inmate beds. That is an increase of 624 beds, requiring the hiring of about 150 new staff members. The facility currently employs about 365 people, but is expected to employ more than 500 when the expansion is completed.
“The more people we can serve with our rehabilitation programming, the better,” Warden Mike Bell said. “Not only will more inmates’ lives be saved, but the growth will allow MTC to hire more people and to serve the Henderson community even more.”
The treatment facility is already recognized as the largest licensed treatment center in Texas. Bell says all but 44 of the total 2280 beds that will be in operation by September 2009 are already under contract.
MTC’s treatment facility provides inmates with comprehensive treatment for drug and alcohol dependency. It also provides inmates the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of educational programs.
