East Texas Treatment Facility employees “shaping up”

The latest construction project completed at the Management & Training Corporation (MTC)-operated East Texas Treatment Facility is helping employees to get into shape. The new 7300-square foot facility features a well-equipped exercise room, available to employees 24 hours a day.

The Henderson, Texas correctional facility employs about 500 people. Warden Michael Bell says they have set a goal at the site to assist employees in improving their overall health.

In addition to making the exercise equipment available, employees are also being encouraged to participate at least twice each month in online health and fitness educational courses. The fitness area includes both cardiovascular exercise equipment and weightlifting apparatus.

In addition to the exercise area, the new facility also features classrooms for training both correctional officers and other professionals, including licensed counselors.

The facility, which opened in January, also features a large meeting room which is expected to be used by Henderson civic organizations as well as East Texas Treatment Facility personnel.
