Former MTC Warden receives national honor, posthumously Those working in the Management & Training Corporation Corrections Division who had the privilege of being a colleague and friend of Jackie Thomas were thrilled this fall when she was honored posthumously for her outstanding efforts. Thomas was the co-president of MTC’s Women in Corrections (WIC) organization. After her death just over a year ago, the WIC organization established a scholarship in Jackie’s name. Scholarship recipients attend the Women in Corrections annual meeting in San Antonio, Texas sponsored by Sam Houston State University and the Association of Women Executives in Corrections (AWEC) leadership training. MTC’s WIC Advisory Board also nominated Jackie for the Susan M. Hunter award. This award is given annually by AWEC. The criteria for this prestigious award are: • A woman who empowers other women and celebrates the work of women in corrections MTC is thrilled to announce, Jackie Thomas is this years’ Susan M. Hunter award recipient. Jackie’s husband, Kevin Criner, accepted the award on his wife’s behalf – as several MTC staff members looked on – during a ceremony in New Orleans, last month.
