Keystone Job Corps Center celebrates 40th anniversary Center Business & Community Liaison Ross Valenti said ground was broken for the center in the fall of 1966 – with the first students enrolling in spring 1967. “We have educated about 50,000 young people here in those 40 years,” he added. The anniversary events were designed to showcase the center, which had two new dormitory halls and several newer buildings, including the Culinary Arts Building which caters local events such as local Chamber of Commerce meals. “It was a good opportunity to celebrate our accomplishments and identify our challenges for the future,” Valenti added. The center is now working to increase its enrollment of local students. The center serves about 600 students. However, only about one in 10 of those students are from the local area. During the celebration, a mini-carnival was held complete with games and an outdoor picnic. Past center directors and dignitaries from the U.S. Department of Labor also attended the event.
