MTC’s Arizona prisons serving their communities
Industrious inmates at Management & Training Corporation’s two Arizona correctional facilities are working hard to serve their communities.
At Arizona State Prison-Kingman, inmates in Thomas Bentosino’s building trades class recently constructed and artistically-painted a girls’ playhouse. The small pink, blue and yellow structure features characters and scenes from animated Disney princess movies.
The playhouse was donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Kingman, Arizona. The country’s recent economic downturn has reduced funding and donations to the club. The organization planned to raffle the playhouse off to raise money for their continued community service.
Meanwhile, southeast of Kingman, the Marana Community Correctional Treatment Facility (MCCTF) near Tucson, Arizona recently received a call from a citizen, who explained a small park near the prison is no longer being maintained – again, due to budget issues. In an effort to assist the community, Marana Warden Terry Royal and Deputy Warden Steve Foley assembled an inmate work crew to help out.
Inmates recently picked up trash, cleared overgrown brush and weeds, trimmed trees and cleaned up playground equipment. Facility officials have pledged this will now be an ongoing MCCTF project, allowing inmates to continue contributing to the community.
