The MTC Corrections division has enjoyed tremendous growth in 2007
The Ohio Controlling Board has voted to renew the Lake Erie and North Coast facility contracts for a two-year period, through June 2009. MTC was again able to successfully negotiate with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections (ODRC).
The Federal Bureau of Prisons also awarded MTC a contract to manage the 2355-bed Taft Correctional Institution located in Taft, CA. The facility houses sentenced criminal aliens and minimum security federal prisoners. MTC began operation of the facility on August 20, 2007.
The Willacy County Texas Commissioners Court approved the IGSA with the Department of Homeland Security for a 1086-bed expansion of the Willacy ICE facility. The targeted start-up for that project is January 2008.
In May this year, MTC began construction of the new 1086-bed Otero II facility located adjacent to the Otero Detention Facility. MTC is negotiating to potentially expand the facility up to 2,000 beds.
Also in May, MTC completed construction of the 1160 bed East Texas ISF facility. The new construction added 860 beds. MTC is negotiating to fill up these additional beds with more ISF inmates or parolees.
Finally, the 576 bed expansion at Dalby Correctional Facility was finished on June 30, 2007, making the total capacity at that Federal Bureau of Prisons facility 1670 beds.
