Borallon prison staff takes part in World Environment Day General Manager Troy Ittensohn and his staff supported the event in a variety of ways. Among other things, the staff distributed trees in the community. The plants had been donated by the Ipswich City Council and a local land care group. The aim was to promote planting trees as a way of reducing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The Borallon Centre also coordinated a coloring contest to promote environmental awareness. Children and grandchildren of Borallon staff members participated in the contest, with winners receiving prizes. Ittensohn added, “MTC is participating in the Lights off Australia program, wherein staff members are encouraged to turn off their lights in their work areas unless they are truly needed to function.” World Environment Day is commemorated each year on June 5. The 2007 slogan for the event was Melting Ice – a Hot Topic. (Posted 6/20/07)
