Potomac JCC Staff and Students Meet First Lady Michelle Obama Twenty Potomac Job Corps Center students recently participated in a welcoming ceremony for first lady Michelle Obama, during a visit to the Department of Labor headquarters, in Washington D.C. Seated in the Great Hall with hundreds of DOL employees, the students were delighted to meet the first lady and to hear her remarks. Mrs. Obama praised the work of DOL employees and thanked them for their efforts. Additionally, she recognized the Job Corps culinary students, saying, “I've heard that Job Corps culinary art students have prepared delicious and hopefully healthy snacks for our children. We're grateful for you and I'm looking forward to meeting you all.” Following her remarks, the first lady mingled with attendees. Potomac students were excited to shake her hand. Before departing, Mrs. Obama spent time with the Labor Department’s "little people,” a reference to the children attending the DOL’s daycare center. The first lady read the classic Dr. Seuss children’s book Green Eggs and Ham to a dozen toddlers. She then joined Labor Secretary Hilda L. Solis in serving the kids the healthy snacks prepared by the Job Corps students. (Posted 2/28/10) |
