Nine Sierra Nevada Job Corps students medal in statewide competition Nine of 12 students from the MTC-operated Sierra Nevada Job Corps Center (SNJCC) earned medals in a statewide skill competition held this spring in Las Vegas. The students represented Northern Nevada and were judged against more than 800 competitors in the Nevada Skills USA Competition. The competitors were evaluated for their expertise in areas such as: carpentry, culinary arts, hotel & lodging, certified nursing assistant, automotive and office administration. The Reno-based Job Corps center won all awards in the areas of job interview and demonstration. SNJCC students collectively received four gold medals, four silver medals and three bronze medals. Gold medal winners will travel to the national skills competition, June 21-26, in Kansas City, Missouri. "Our students work tremendously hard on their technical training," said SNJCC Director Ken Dugan. "The skills they gain and prove during competitions like this are the skills that make them valuable employees when they join the workforce." (Posted 6/10/10) |
