MTC Success for Life ® Inmate program introduced at CEA Conference

The Correctional Education Association (CEA) held its 62nd annual conference in Atlanta, Georgia this summer.  Among the several MTC employees on hand at the conference were President and CEO Scott Marquardt and Corrections Senior Vice President Odie Washington.

MTC also used this gathering of corrections educators to roll out its new Success for Life® manual.  Former Windham (Texas) School District Superintendent Dr. Chris Tracy assisted in the roll out, by explaining each section of the manual to interested attendees.  MTC correctional staff members were asked to incorporate the manual into their inmate programming over the next year and to provide critique and feedback afterward.

Also during the conference, Dr. Jerry McGlone, superintendent of Ohio DOC Education, and his staff conducted a short workshop on the Ohio Teacher Training the state is developing.  Steve Easley, director Region 2, gave an update on the new construction and upcoming RFPs in the Texas region, and Steve MacDonald, Public Policy Research Analyst from MTC’s Institute discussed the many articles the Institute is currently working on.
One MTC conference highlight came during a reception where CEA accreditation awards were presented. This year three MTC facilities received this award – Kyle, Dalby and Kingman.  Kyle and Kingman earned accreditations for the first time, while Dalby was re-accredited.

Additionally, the Correctional Education Association presented a new award to MTC for its commitment to the CEA accreditation process.  CEA presented only three of the new awards, and MTC was the only private corrections operator to earn the distinction.
