Taft Correctional Institution inmates donate 1700 toys

Inmate volunteers at the Taft Correctional Institution in Taft, California carried on a successful tradition this past holiday season.  The inmates once again built toys for donation to several community assistance organizations.

This year more than 1700 toys were created by the inmates and distributed by the Taft Lions Club to children in need.

“The Toys for Tots program continues MTC’s commitment to changing lives and giving something worthwhile back to the community,” said Taft Warden Neil Adler.  “These toys are given to less fortunate children during the holiday season when they might not otherwise receive a gift.”

The inmate-built toys were distributed to the: Taft Community Resource Center, Bakersfield Rescue Mission, Laborers of the Harvest, Jamison Children’s Center, Taft Needs Center and Bakersfield Homeless Center.

Among the donated items were hand-crafted, wooden rocking horses.
