Tongue Point JCC students assist with graffiti clean-up Students and staff at Astoria, Oregon’s Tongue Point Job Corps Center volunteered time this fall, helping to repair damage caused by vandals. Eight Job Corps students and their instructor spent one full day assisting a local glass company with the installation of about 100 new windows at an area high school, after vandal broke them out. The students cleaned up broken glass and prepared the damaged areas for new glass installation. Glass company officials say the project would have taken three or four days if the Job Corps students had not assisted. Additionally, Tongue Point Job Corps Center paint crews also donated time painting one entire side of the school building which had been defaced by graffiti. This effort took the paint students about three days. Local school district officials are now evaluating ways to make the school more secure. In the meantime, they also expressed appreciation to the Tongue Point students for being available on short notice to assist with the clean-up and restoration effort.
