Tongue Point Job Corps Center instructor honored For the second year in a row, Tongue Point Job Corps Center instructor Jarom Bowles has been selected to receive the annual Extra Mile award presented by the Home Builders Institute (HBI). The Extra Mile award is given annually to one Job Corps instructor per region. The honor goes to instructors who foster strong working relationships with students, fellow instructors, center staff, industry contractors and the local community. Bowles began his career in the construction field as a laborer more than 20 years ago. He then moved to project management work and attained his General Contracting License, which he still holds. He began working at the Tongue Point Job Corps Center in 2002 and became the center’s Facilities Maintenance instructor in 2007. "I am very fortunate to work for a non-profit organization like HBI and at Tongue Point Job Corps Center. I get to do the two things I love most, work and teach young adults to better their lives and pass on the skills I have acquired in my life that have been a benefit to me," said Bowles. "We at Tongue Point truly appreciate having instructors of Jarom’s caliber who teach technically sound skills and truly care about their students’ success," said Kim Shillinger, center director at Tongue Point.
