Visitors bring good cheer to Westover Job Corps Center

Students from Chicopee, Massachusetts-area elementary schools recently enjoyed themselves during a visit to MTC-operated Westover Job Corps Center.  The youngsters spent much of their time stomping their feet in the center’s gymnasium bleachers while chanting “Go UMass!”

The visiting students joined Westover students in cheering on the University of Massachusetts-Amherst cheerleading team, as they performed an exhibition at the center.

“It’s a good inspiration for the children to watch how hard the performers work,” said one of the elementary school principals.
Westover Job Corps students sat in chairs on the side of the gym watching the team’s moves.  “I want my students to see what they can aspire to,” said Westover’s Business and Community Liaison John Arthur.  “I think it builds character.  That’s what I want to relate to our students.”

About two dozen cheerleaders entertained the audience with their moves.  Occasionally they even brought some of the young people out to participate.
“It was great!” said one visiting ten year old.  “I like when the girls flipped in the air,” an eight year old added.
