Westover JCC students help construct greenhouse
Westover Job Corps Center students recently assisted a large community project in Holyoke, Massachusetts. The students were among a host of carpenters, plumbers, electricians and farmers who dismantled a 30' x 80' greenhouse, to relocate it in an area which will benefit the community for years to come.
The students helped by packing up the greenhouse’s plastic panels and metal framework. They also assisted in cleaning up the job site.
The Associated Building Wreckers and Fontaine Brothers donated the large greenhouse to the Chicopee-Holyoke School to Career Program. The greenhouse is to be reassembled at the Nuestras Raices Farm in Holyoke. The donor companies are currently dismantling old buildings at a local high school.
Nuestras Raices is a grassroots organization which promotes economic, human and community development through projects relating to food, agriculture and the environment.
One organizer of the event said, "The Westover Job Corps carpentry and plumbing crews have been of enormous assistance."
