Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) orders larger Willacy facility
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is the largest investigative arm of the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS). It is responsible for identifying and responding to any vulnerabilities regarding the nation's border, economic, transportation, and infrastructure security. The motto of ICE is “Integrity, Courage, and Excellence".
At the request of ICE, Willacy County officials have contracted with MTC for the expansion of the 2,000-bed Willacy County Processing Center in Raymondville, Texas.
The center – which is currently under renovation and expansion – will increase its detainee capacity by 1086 with the addition of a new detainee housing and support building. Currently, MTC manages more detainee beds for ICE than any other private contractor.
Other additions coming through the large facility expansion include: a food service and dining area, indoor recreation, support service areas and new inmate programming areas.
Existing detention areas will also be renovated to upgrade living and dayroom areas, access to natural light and additional ancillary functions areas.
The expansion is expected to be completed by next March.
Raymondville, Texas is a small farming community of 8,800 residents, in south Texas near the United States-Mexico border.
