Turner Job Corps students rolled up their sleeves to help the Village Community Garden in Sylvester, Georgia. The students laid down a weed barrier in preparation for a new raised garden.
Turner Job Corps has parented with the Village Community Garden for the past two years.
And the garden is getting a lot of attention thanks in large part to a unique way of growing produce called Aeroponics. It uses volcanic ash instead of soil and stacks the plants in a tower. 10 towers can produce the equivalent of two and half acres of food.
Georgia Congressman Austin Scott came out to speak to the group and praised Job Corps for being a strong part of the community and for helping students succeed.
“I appreciate what you do,” he said, “because this is where the rubber meets the road. It’s about what you are doing with these kids.”
