Employer Explains How Job Corps Prepares Young People for the Workforce

Noah Kapp talks to students at the MTC-operated Charleston Job Corps Center in West Virginia.

“What’s your plan when you come out?” he asks.

“I want to work in a nursing home,” replies a student.

“Oh, that’s wonderful,” says Noah.

Talking to anther student, Noah says, “You’ll have benefits, a retirement plan.”

Noah is managing partner of a company called Hired LLC, a staffing agency. His company recently partnered with Charleston Job Corps in search of great talent.

“The people that come out of this program are top-notch. They know what they’re doing and they’re ready to get to work.”

Talking to a student in the center’s heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) program, Noah says, “I was just talking to a guy in HVAC. I work for a staffing company, and we have a lot of clients right now who are looking to hire people to come work in HVAC.”

Noah says there are hundreds of job opportunities in the Charleston area.

“These Job Corps graduates, these are prime targets for employers right now,” he says. “Carpenters, electricians, welders, HVAC, anybody in the healthcare field. We need them. We want them. We’re ready for them.”

Noah continues, “I’m just blown away by the campus itself. This looks like a university campus. It’s clean. Everybody is kind as I walk through. You go into these classrooms, and they’re state of the art.”

For Noah, Job Corps is where it’s at.

“I’d say this is one of the best uses of taxpayer money that I’ve seen for this area because you’re actually putting people to work. You’re not just providing them with money for them to stay at home. You’re saying, ‘Hey, go out into the workforce, get a job, and get working.’”
