“I’m Better Because of Job Corps”: Student Dante Rivera’s Experience

Dante Rivera is from Philadelphia. He finished high school there, but decided he needed some good job training. That’s where Job Corps came in.

Dante decided to enroll at the Earle C. Clements Job Corps Center in Morganfield, KY. “The advanced trade that I picked was the T-TEN program that Toyota offers here at the Earle C. Clements Job Corps Center,” Dante says. “And I would say it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life.”

Dante wanted to venture out and move away from home but said he knew that it would be hard. “I love my family very dearly,” he says.

But he also knew he had to do this. “I highly recommend this program for anybody looking to just get up and better themselves and get up and leave their environment and try and reinvent themselves. Yeah, my parents are very proud of me. They absolutely love what I’m doing, and I’m super happy. And that just shows me, ‘Hey, you know, I’m going in the right direction. I’m where I need to be.’

Dante’s United Auto Workers instructor Jody Hartley also believes he is in the right place. “He’s very outgoing, a hard worker, very willing to work, and very willing to learn.”

So Dante, what have you learned? What do you have to say?

“I say thank you,” he says. “It’s not a waste of taxpayers’ money. And I’m looking forward to paying taxes someday to help give others the opportunity as well.”

Dante continues, “I’m better because of Job Corps.”
