Being BIONIC: Willacy HSA Marissa Garza

The MTC Medical division provides medical services at many of the facilities we operate. The medical team at each site is led by a Health Services Administrator or HSA.

All of us throughout MTC want to take a moment to salute each one of our HSAs, knowing they represent the determination and fortitude of every member of their team at each facility where MTC Medical has a presence.

In this story, we pay tribute to Marissa Garza, the HSA at the Willacy County Regional Detention Facility in Raymondville, TX. Frank Luna is the warden.

Warden Luna: “When Marissa came in, she just had a new – it was a breath of fresh air. She came in, she had a great attitude. Anything we asked of her, she did.”

Marissa: We have a culture here that we want to make sure everybody gets taken care of. Being BIONIC means going above and beyond, making sure everybody gets what they need when they need it. And then doing that little extra to help them out.

Warden Luna: Just the communication level between her and her line staff, she gives some good direction to the people out there.

Marissa: My staff? I have a pretty amazing staff, and I’ve always told that to everybody. They work together really well, we do help each other as much as possible. I’m very proud of them for everything they do; everything I ask them to do, they do. And they take care of our population really, really well, and they give them the care that they really need.

Warden Luna: Her attitude is very positive, always has a smile on her face. And to me, that means a lot. I think when you want to be where you’re at, then people feel a little bit more comfortable, and they’re going to perform their jobs better. So, Marissa’s brought that on.

Marissa: My favorite thing is the working relationships that I have, not only with my staff but with everybody else here at this facility. I really enjoy the community in this facility. Everybody helps each other out, we look out for each other. We all pretty much have a good working relationship with each other.
