Imperial HSA Katherine Hawk: Difference Maker

The MTC Medical division provides the medical services at many of the facilities we operate. The medical team at each site is led by a Health Services Administrator, or HSA.

All of us throughout MTC want to take a moment to salute each one of our HSAs, knowing they represent the determination and fortitude of every member of their team at each facility where MTC Medical has a presence.

In this story, we pay tribute to Katherine Hawk, the HSA at the Imperial Regional Detention Facility in Calexico, CA. Edward Ruiz is the acting facility administrator.

Katherine: “We have people from all walks of life, some of them who have never received any sort of medical care, and they’re extremely grateful for the medical care that we give them. It’s just nice to know that we are able to provide that for them.”

Administrator Ruiz: Well, Ms. Hawk comes in every day, goal-oriented, mission-focused. She’s out there taking vitals, she’s out there doing temperature checks, filling out paperwork, filling in for nurses that are out.

Katherine: Pretty much, we’re treating others the way we would like to be treated. With care and concern, with dignity and respect. We’re going to treat them all equally. Obviously, there are rules and barriers that we need to abide by. And policy. But I’m going to treat them to the best of my ability and try to give them the best quality of care that I can give them.

Administrator Ruiz: Her everyday attitude is positive all the time. She’s very charismatic. Ms. Hawk has an amazing medical team. Everybody’s out to, not only do their job but care about it while they’re doing it. They’re here to help out other human beings that are just in a different situation.

Katherine: “I have a dedicated staff. They are so dedicated. They come to work, and they get the job done at the end of the day, and they come together. I’m just so proud of each and every one of them. I am so grateful that I have the staff that I have. We would not be functioning as a facility if it wasn’t for them. I thank them; thank them from the bottom of my heart.”
