Bill Glass Behind the Walls is a faith-based organization designed to touch the hearts of incarcerated people right where they are to help them feel hope. The Bill Glass Ministry has been active for 40 years but had to adjust to what they do and how they do it in the wake of the pandemic.

Recently, the organization came to the Billy Moore Correctional Center in Overton, TX, as well as the East Texas Treatment Facility just down the road in Henderson. They weren’t able to interact with residents, but the volunteers put their energy into greeting and thanking the staff, serving them food from Chick-Fil-A, and visiting with them one-on-one.

While the staff and administrators of the MTC facilities were deeply grateful for the ministry’s incredible efforts, Bill Glass leaders sent emails expressing their appreciation for the experience they enjoyed.

Michael Nolan, CEO:

“Bill Glass Ministries would like to thank MTC for the privilege of honoring the officers and staff of Billy Moore and East Texas Treatment. If it wasn’t for you, we would not be able to do what we do. We look forward to seeing and serving you next year!”

CF Hazlewood, Jr., Deputy Director of Religious Services:

“It was a pleasure to serve the officers and employees of the Moore unit. The service to the state of Texas by the employees of the Moore unit is greatly appreciated and often taken for granted by many of the citizens of our state. Those who work in a prison environment are for the most part out of sight and out of mind until something bad happens, and then it is front- page news. Employees should not let this be a sense of discouragement but should serve to help them see how vitality important their jobs are to the state in general. It is expected that we do our jobs effectively so the people of the state of Texas can do theirs. Working in a place, few if any really understand, has special challenges that only the initiated can fully appreciate. I want to encourage all the employees to continue to stay vigilant and to persevere through the daily struggles the job brings. Keep your heads up and press on in protecting the great state of Texas. Texans slept well last night because the employees of the Moore unit did their job. A big ‘thank you’ to all of the employees who make this happen every day.”
