A New Perspective about Prison After a Tour of MTC’s Bridgeport Facility

A group from the Workforce Solutions for North Central Texas recently came to visit staff members and tour the Bridgeport Correctional Center in Bridgeport, Texas. Workforce Solutions assists the facility in helping find employees. The organization decided it was time to experience the facility and see what it was like to allow them greater information and insight when discussing the unit with potential employees. Following the visit, Barbara Robinson, a talent development specialist for Workforce Solutions, sent the following ‘thank you’ note:

“The experience was astounding. To actually go inside and experience the ins & outs of the facility and the complete operation was eye-opening. There are so many phobias about the prison system. It was good to view the experience from the inside. Like Warden Currie said, ‘forget everything you see on TV and in the movies, the men are sent there as punishment and not to be punished!

I saw the respect [shown between] both parties [staff & inmates]. The father/book reading [program] was emotional. I don’t think I have ever heard anything about working with an inmate’s children. It was touching to see that they could read a book and have it recorded to send to their children. I was so touched by that.

Again, thank you all for the tour, lunch, and enlightening us about the facility and answering all of our questions.”
