Changing Lives at the East Texas Treatment Facility

A resident recently released from the East Texas Treatment Facility, in Henderson, Texas, shared his feelings about his experience while serving his sentence.

“My experience here was very good,” says Raymond Ballard. “ [I] Definitely felt more like a person that was getting prepared to get released than I did an inmate or offender. I was treated very well by staff.”

One of the programs Raymond participated in while he was at the facility was the In-Prison Therapeutic Community or IPTC program.

“The IPTC program helped me a lot. It helped me to prepare myself for success. It helped me to set boundaries for myself. It helped me to be more aware of the type of people that I allow around me when I’m released.

“I definitely feel more prepared whenever I get out to be successful. I feel like I can function well around people and without resorting to criminal behavior. I can definitely be successful when I’m released.”
