The Taft Correctional Institution recently presented 16 inmates from the facility’s satellite camp with their certificates of completion during a graduation ceremony held for Non-Residential Drug Abuse Program (NRDAP).

The purpose of the program is to give all inmates with a drug problem the opportunity to receive drug treatment. This program targets incarcerated individuals who are either waiting to enter the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP) or do not meet the admission criteria for the RDAP, but who wish to benefit from less-intensive drug abuse treatment services. This program is also associated with self-help programs such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous which are considered support programs for the NRDAP and the Bureau of Prison’s treatment protocols.

Programs such as the NRDAP program help reduce recidivism and prepare offenders to successfully re-enter society by promoting improvement in an inmate’s quality of life and the likelihood of treatment success.
