MTC Applauds Congress for Passing Bi-partisan Criminal Justice Reform Legislation

Management & Training Corporation (MTC) applauds Congress for passing the criminal justice reform legislation, the First Step Act. President Trump signed the bill into law on December 21, 2018.

MTC strongly supports corrections reforms and initiatives that improve safety and prepare incarcerated men and women to successfully return to their communities, including:

  • Maximizing opportunities for prosocial engagement
  • Providing a greater continuity of services from custody to community
  • Reforming the use of restrictive housing
  • Allocating adequate resources for mental health treatment
  • Implementing sentencing reform policies
  • Providing greater leadership, training, and professional development

“Since 1987, MTC has been operating safe and secure correctional facilities and preparing incarcerated men and women for successful reintegration into their communities. MTC believes all correctional institutions must be held accountable for the fair and humane treatment of those in their custody. All prisons must be held to the highest standards in providing clean and well-maintained facilities, quality and timely health care, and programs that are effective in preparing men and women in custody for reintegration into society.”

Michael Santos also strongly supports the First Step Act. Click above to watch his story. Michael was incarcerated for 26 years for drug crimes and fully understands the importance of reforming the current criminal justice system. Michael recently visited three MTC correctional facilities in Texas to see what MTC is doing to reduce recidivism. He was impressed with MTC’s commitment and focus on rehabilitation programs. He wrote an op-ed expressing his support for criminal justice reform and praising MTC for what it’s doing to make a difference in corrections.
