“Nice to be treated as a human” Emphasizes One Gadsden Resident

The Gadsden Correctional Facility in Quincy, Florida is an all-female facility that is heavily invested in rehabilitation programs. Jennifer Bloye, one of the individuals incarcerated at Gadsden, shares her personal experiences with staff and how MTC is helping her improve her life.”

“Gadsden is so different, and I think it’s because it’s run by MTC; because they treat us as an individual that just made a mistake. We’re not felons or convicts or inmates to them—we’re people. And so it’s really nice to be treated as a human that did make a mistake, and we’re just trying to overcome that obstacle so that we can go out into society. So MTC really provides all the opportunities for us to improve ourselves.”

“They’re very approachable. They’re very professional.  I mean, there’s a very clear line that they are staff, they are the officers, they’re here to do the care, the custody, and the control, and we are incarcerated. That’s very clear. But at the same time, they have that human factor. And I think a lot of other correctional facilities, they lose that, they lose that human factor. And that’s what MTC really knows how to balance. We’re here to do our jobs, but we’re also here to encourage you, so you can go out and be successful, so you’re not having to come back.”

“I’m a big fan of MTC, because I know the difference.  I know the difference between how other facilities are ran, and I know the difference in how this facility is ran, and this facility right here just gives everyone that hope, and that second chance that they deserve.”
