Texas District Attorney Praises Sanders Estes Programs

Faith Johnson, the Dallas County District Attorney, recently took a trip to Venus, Texas to pay a visit to the Sanders Estes Unit, a correctional facility MTC operates for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

While at the facility, Ms. Johnson saw firsthand the operation of the unit, as well as some of the 32 programs that are offered. In 2017, the approximately 1,000 men incarcerated at the facility were able to complete nearly one and a half million hours of effective programming and engagement activities. One of the facility’s effective programs is the Prison Entrepreneurship Program which is highlighted in this video.

Ms. Johnson spoke with several of the incarcerated men to hear their impressions of the impact the programs are making on their lives.

“I love the programs,” says Ms. Johnson. “Keep up the good work here and let’s see how we can expand this and convince other facilities to do exactly what you guys are doing here at Sanders Estes. I think Sanders Estes can be a model for so many facilities throughout the country.”
