The Oliver J. Bell Unit, in Cleveland, TX, recently provided the opportunity for some talented residents to use their artistic abilities. The artists designed and created several beautiful, intricate murals throughout the facility including a Looney-Tunes-themed wall for children to enjoy during visitation.

These new murals added to the artwork already prevalent in the facility. The men who participated expressed their gratitude and talked about the positive experience they had.

Thomas Jarma: My dream of being a ‘unit artist’ has eluded me for 14 years. God gave me the ability, and MTC finally provided the opportunity. It has been an honor to paint the walls of the Oliver J. Bell Unit and hopefully put a smile on someone’s face. Thank you to everyone in the MTC corporation. You have definitely made a difference in my life going forward.

Anthony McNeese: The most significant part of being at the Oliver J. Bell Unit was the positive affirmation that you receive daily from the welcoming and encouraging artwork that the walls contain; as well as the constant interaction with the staff and administration. It has been a helpful experience.

Juan Ibarra: I arrived at the Oliver J. Bell Unit on August 14, 2019. I have been incarcerated in the various prisons, but my experience here has made a change in me. I have been able to obtain my NCCER electrical trade and afterwards received a job in front administration. During my work in the administration, I have been able to participate in various paint projects with my co-worker and friend TJ. It has been a great learning experience, and

I am happy to help on these projects. The staff here are great and treat us respectfully. I thank God for being at a facility where I can do my time comfortably and also learn how to paint murals while I work.

Vincent Bakani: When I arrived t the Bell Unit for the Prison Entrepreneurship Program, I did not know what to expect. I soon came to realize that this unit is special. The whole culture and atmosphere encourage change for the better. Everything from the conversations we have to the behaviors of the individuals housed here are on a positive note. Coming here helped me grow and changed my life. I will forever be grateful for this experience.
