WAMEGO, Kan. (WIBW) – Real-life, hands on work experience is giving some Flint Hills Job Corps students a head start on their future career.

Seven students are getting work experience while putting the skills they’ve learned into practice on a real job-site.

Flint Hills Job Corps has a partnership with the Glassman Corporation, installing plumbing, heating and air conditioning to the new Wamego Aquatic Center.

Students get to work alongside trained professionals to apply their skills in real life and not just in a classroom setting.

For these students, after they complete all the requirements, it brings them one step closer to starting a successful career.

“They leave out of here, they get a pre-apprentice certificate through the Home Builders Institute. And they leave here as pre-apprentice plumbers.” Flint Hills Job Corps, Training Manager, Alex Munoz says.

With on-site job experience opportunities, Flint Hills Job Corps is hoping more students will be interested in their trade programs.
