Otero County Prison Facility inmates arranged a run/walk to raise money for victims of the El Paso shooting last August, according to a news release.

More than 100 inmates at Management and Training Corporation, or MTC, Otero County Prison Facility, participated in the walk/run last September.

“It sounded like a really good way for us to do something to give back to the community. I think there can often be some misconceptions about us as inmates: that we don’t really care; that we don’t have compassion,” Otero County Prison Facility inmate Kevin Jaramillo said.

OCPF Officer Castile said that the inmates did all the work on the walk/run. Castile’s first name has been redacted for security purposes.

“They just ran with it. They did the stopwatches, they did the timing. All I did was stand around and oversee them,” Castile said.
