MTC manages the Otero County Prison Facility and Otero County Processing Center. The for-profit prison company is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. Locally, MTC  launched the “Literacy Project” during the first quarter and collected 3,336 books. Employees donated more than 1,000 books to the cause.

“Literacy is key to success in life and it’s a very important focus of what we do at our facility. We must place a high priority on education as it leads to more opportunities and success in life,” said MTC Administrator Assistant Cesar Gomez.

The Consulate General of Mexico at El Paso joined in by donating over 1,000 Spanish language books. On March 30, staff from MTC and two deputies from Otero County Sheriff’s Department delivered the first donation to On Track Pre-K, along with social worker Deborah Holguin from Gadsden Independent School District.

On March 31, Cradles & Crayons Daycare received 1,104 books. The facility also donated 1,087 books to Chaparral Family Development Center which is part of the nonprofit Colonias Development Council.
