“It’s a great training program,” he says, “I think a lot of people should take advantage of it.”

Jason certainly did. After completing high school in Colorado, he attended the Clearfield Job Corps Center in Utah, earning certifications in office administration and computer technology. From there, he went to the Hubert H. Humphrey Center in Minnesota for advanced training in transportation and communications in the TCU program.

“It seems like an interesting career with a lot of job opportunities. It seems pretty popular. It’s not just countrywide, but there are a lot of positions globally for transportation.

Jason says it was hard work, “I definitely learn differently than most people, that’s a given.”

But that didn’t stop him.

“I learn quickly on a lot of things, but somethings it takes me a few tries. That’s why I’m glad I have a lot of the staff here to help me out with that.”

“When Jason gets nervous,” says instructor Martha Benda, “I kind of try to work with him to feel more comfortable. And I’m really comfortable with him. I think we kind of have a really good repour with each other.”

Jason has done very well in the TCU program, earning several of its most difficult certifications.

“He’s certainly someone that’s matured a lot in the last nine months,” adds his instructor. “And it’s exciting to see him going out in the work world.”

“Yea, I’d like to think my hard work is starting to pay off at this point,” says Jason. “All these years I’ve been in Job Corps learning and training.”
