She’s in a Male-Dominated Field-And She Loves It!

Jamielynn Mazurek believes Job Corps has changed her life.

She says, “Being a woman in a non-traditional trade such as residential construction is challenging sometimes. At the same time, as a woman, I don’t feel intimidated by anybody. And, I can get the job done. And I can get the job done right.”

She chose Building Construction Technology (BCT) because she enjoys hands-on projects.

“I’ve never done any type of construction work before Job Corps. And, I’m glad I choose this trade because I thought I would like it, and I do. I love BCT. It’s really my passion right now.”

“My biggest challenge has been to learn from my mistakes and then not beat myself up over it.  I’ve learned to overcome that challenge, and I think I’m now prepared to conquer anything after I get out of Job Corps and advanced Job Corps training.

“My biggest success was that I was selected for the International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas. I was one of six students from the country chosen, and I will be representing BCT, Wind River Job Corps Center, and HBI [Home Builders Institute].”

Jamielynn says, “We all want to see America grow in the future, and I’m proud of that. My advice for women in non-traditional trades is that they should always keep their heads up and don’t be intimidated by anyone on the job site, because you are definitely capable, if not more capable then the next guy at doing the job.”
