Sierra Nevada Job Corps Students Headed to National Skills Competition
Hundreds of hand-picked vocational students from dozens of high schools and technical institutes in Nevada met in Reno to compete against each other in Skills Nevada, a wide variety of contests designed to test proficiency in everything from architectural drafting to welding fabrication. A select group of Sierra Nevada Job Corps students, victors from the earlier on-center Trade Olympics event, swept two entire events, while capturing Gold and Silver medals in carpentry and nursing. Below is a list of winners, including three champions chosen to represent the center in the 55th annual Skills USA, to be held June 24-28, 2019 in Louisville, Kentucky:

Medical Administrative Assistant Instructor Lyndsay Evans led the week of events.
“We came through again! Our student competitors made me and my fellow faculty advisors Julie Stone, Manuel Gonzalez, and Michael Thomas very proud to be a part of their efforts. They showed everyone that they deserved to win.”
“It was exciting to meet working professionals who showed us how we could improve our employability. I look forward to visiting a new city in June. I’m just lucky to have this experience,” adds Nataly Juraez Pina who’s headed to the national competition.
“I had a great time meeting students from all over the state,” said pharmacy technician student and Nationals contestant Aaron Hidalgo, “and I think I’ll do well in Louisville. I know my stuff.”
