Soaring to Success at the Hubert H. Humphrey Job Corps Center

It’s called the Learning Jet, a 727 airplane at Holman Air Field in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Under the direction of International Union of Painters & Allied Trades (IUPAT) instructors, painting students from MTC’s Hubert H. Humphrey Job Corps Center transformed the plane into a classroom designed to inspire young people of all ages and encourage them to launch careers in the aviation industry.

Students applied their skills by installing sheet rock, performing aerial lift work, sanding, and painting. The Learning Jet’s hanger also received a complete painting makeover.

Instructor John Kaiser said, “I couldn’t be prouder of my students for the work they did on this project!”

These types of work-based learning opportunities prepare Job Corps students for future success in their new careers.
